Ahead of the tournament, LanternsArt has completed a custom light sculpture for a Mexican client — a rotating football-globe hybrid designed for fan zone activation. The piece combines two core symbols: a spherical body that merges football's hexagonal paneling with world map contours, with green landmasses and blue oceans painted across the surface. The Americas are clearly visible, a deliberate nod to the North American host region. A circular illuminated base beneath the globe bears the text "FIFA WORLD CUP" in official lettering.
The sculpture was fabricated using Zigong's traditional wire-frame technique. Cold-rolled steel wire and rebar were welded into a spherical skeleton, with precision bending to replicate football panel geometry while maintaining structural integrity at scale. The surface is wrapped in flame-retardant silk fabric — a material standard in Zigong lantern-making — with green and blue sections separately applied for even, shadow-free illumination. Inside, low-voltage LED strips provide 360-degree uniform glow, meeting international electrical safety standards. The entire piece is modularly prefabricated for sea freight and on-site assembly.
